Romania: Increasing the collection of wood waste for a cleaner environment
Treforex SRL was established in 2004 in Toplita, Romania. The company’s main activity is collecting and processing wood waste, and then selling it to companies to be used as biomass or raw material.
Through a project funded by the EEA and Norway Grants, Treforex has implemented a project for increasing their wood waste capacity.
Reduce wood waste
The aim of the project has therefore been to reduce the quantities of wood waste that remain uncollected as well as contributing to the reduction of fuel consumption. In order to achieve these objectives, the company has made investments in a higher number of collection containers and a new special collection truck through funding from the EEA and Norway Grants.
The company’s need to initiate the project was based on the challenge with the wood waste collection process being too slow, resulting in less waste collected, increased fuel consumption and maintenance costs.
Treforex CEO Cristian Dobrean: “The project was only made possible through the help of a non-refundable EEA and Norway grant. The collaboration process went extremely smooth and it is important to note in pandemic times that the communication took place only online, thus eliminating unnecessary bureaucracy. We recommend having a go at EEA and Norway Grants for your business as well”.
Results of the project
- Significant improvement of the efficiency of the wood waste collection activity
- A greener end product (processed wood waste) as the raw material (wood waste) is obtained with less environmental impact; reduced fuel consumption and reduced soil damage
- 15 % growth in the company’s turnover
