Romania: Green production for electric and hybrid cars
Compa has been active in the automotive industry sector for more than 130 years and it is listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, exporting in 23 countries and 3 continents. It is well established in Central Romania and is strategically positioned towards Europe.
Compa has partnered up with Norwegian companies and institutions SINTEF, NTNU and International Development Norway for a project funded by EEA and Norway Grants. The project has been funded through the First Call on the SMEs Growth Programme in Romania.
The project is supporting Compa manufacture components for electric and hybrid cars in an environmentally friendly fashion all the while reducing CO2 emissions and energy consumption and creating 10 new green jobs in Romania.
Cooperation with Norway
With expertise from Norwegian partners, SINTEF, NTNU and IDN, the project designed new innovative and green technologies which enabled the manufacturing of new automotive components with reduced environmental impact.
This modern manufacturing line consists of 3 new pieces of equipment which will help produce gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine body pumps with a maximum of 450 bars pressure, thus dramatically improving the performance of the engine and an estimated 700 tonnes annually in CO2/year greenhouse gas impact reduction.
Dan Baiasu, Commercial Director at Compa, had the following to say about the partnership opportunities under the EEA and Norway Grants:
"One of the main benefits of working together with Innovation Norway is partnerships with strong Norwegian companies, like SIntef, NTNU and IDN. We have had very good relationships with Sintef, with multiple results, as well as with the NTNU. We also plan to continue the relationship we started with these partners and work together on other projects."
Increasing the competitiveness of Romanian business
Through this project, Compa has been able to diversify the range of products in the automotive sector in sustainable manner and will increase its competitiveness locally and nationally.
Results of the project
- A purchasing of 3 CNC Multi spindle machines for the manufacturing of GDI engine body pumps;
- Annual CO2 emission reduction from 1.417,98 to/year to 723,17 to/year;
- Energy consumption reduction from 650 kW/h to 331,5 kW/h;
- Oil consumption reduction from 66.600 litres/year to 22.200 litres/year;
