Romania: A sustainable energy system with Norwegian expertise
COMPA S.A. is a Romanian company with 130 years of experience that continues and develops the inherited technical tradition. Today, COMPA is a strong competitor in the automotive sector, exporting products to 23 countries across three continents.
The company wanted to reduce its environmental footprint by reducing the greenhouse gases through using more renewable energy in daily operations. They teamed up with the Norwegian partner – International Development Norway AS – and applied to the EEA and Norway Grants Programme on Energy, under the open call 3 on Other Renewable Energy Sources.
Solar power
The project allows for COMPA to invest in a solar photovoltaic power system that produces renewable electricity and is connected to the electricity utility grid. The photovoltaic panels will be placed on the buildings roof and land of the company. The photovoltaic system of 0,99 MW will result in an estimated reduction of the CO2 emissions by 378 tonnes/year and to the reduction of operational costs.
Norwegian expertise on greening operations
COMPA S.A. and International Development Norway AS have a long history of collaboration. In a previous partnership project, International Development Norway provided expertise which helped green the operations of COMPA. The partners now continue their cooperation on sustainable development.
In this project, Development Norway AS will identify the best way to achieve the long term goal of COMPA to become carbon neutral, using the experience of Norwegian companies which are world leaders in this segment.
Development Norway AS will identify the potential with hybrid power production, for storage solutions (primary batteries), and for power production, storage and exchange in the industrial zone of COMPA. They will provide recommendations for scale up solutions both for the company and the industrial zone.
Expected results of the project
- New installation for production of energy/electricity from other renewable energy sources
- Capacity for production of energy/electricity from other RES: 0,99 MW
- Estimated annual CO2 emissions reductions (in tonnes CO2 eq./year): 378 tonnes of CO2eq/
- Electric energy produced from other renewable sources - solar (in MWh/year): 1.238 MWh/year
