Romania: a city with a plan - energy efficiency with Norwegian and Romanian expertise

The city of Sfântu Gheorghe had a long-term strategy on sustainable urban development. They have received both funds and expertise from Norway to implement it. The project ‘Low emissions with high and sustainable efficiency in Sfântu Gheorghe Municipality key public buildings’ is funded through the open call on Energy Efficiency, under the Energy Programme in Romania.

Expertise from Norway and Romania

The Partner, Østfold University College, will use its expertise model of energy efficiency in public buildings to minimise the carbon footprint of the municipality. The project will increase energy efficiency in public buildings and reduce carbon emissions. The rehabilitation of public buildings will reduce energy consumption, save finances for the municipality budget and create better conditions for school children and the local community.

The project will lead to reduced energy consumption: 2,735.2 MWh per year, CO2 equivalent emission reduction per year: 520 tons and annual monetary saving from energy efficiency measures: 111,024 euro.

The aim is to make Sfantu Gheorghe a greener and more sustainable city, with improved air quality and environment for its citizens.
